Dr Nina Araneta-Alana - Research Fellow
Nina Araneta-Alana is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Laureate Program on Global Corporate Climate Accountability. She specializes in international law, climate finance and institutional engagement. Her doctoral research examined commitments by states to provide climate finance under international treaties where she provided a historical and critical account of loans and grants received by the Philippines for mitigation and adaptation, and in doing so revealed an enduring coloniality underpinning modern climate finance. She recently concluded an ARC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Australian National University where her research examined state engagement with and backlash against the international legal order. She holds a PhD (UniMelb), Master of Laws (UniMelb), Juris Doctor (ADMU), and a Bachelor of Science (DLSU). Her academic expertise spans international institutional law, climate finance, and regulatory frameworks, particularly in the Global South. Nina has taught across the Melbourne Law School Breadth and Masters programs. Beyond academia, she has extensive experience in energy policy, project finance, and regulatory design, working at the intersection of law, finance, and development.
