Saumya Joshi
Saumya Joshi is a Master of Environment student (Governance, Policy and Markets) at the University of Melbourne. She recently completed an exchange semester at KU Leuven in Belgium, where she focused on European sustainability policy and governance, deepening her interest in how legal frameworks shape corporate climate accountability.
Saumya's capstone research examines corporate liability for climate-related loss and damage in the Global South following ICJ's 2025 advisory opinion on state climate obligations. She brings an interdisciplinary approach, exploring how legal frameworks governing state responsibility apply to corporate actors, with a particular focus on the barriers faced by Global South communities seeking corporate accountability.
Prior to her graduate studies, Saumya worked as a Product Development Coordinator at GAP, Inc., in New York. She coordinated end-to-end product development and vendor engagement across Global South production networks. At the University of Melbourne, she has worked as a Green Impact Assistant with the Melbourne Centre for Cities, supporting cross-departmental sustainability initiatives.
Saumya holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Entrepreneurship (Cum Laude) with a minor in Ethics and Sustainability from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York. She holds an ESG Specialisation certification, Melbourne Plus credentials in Sustainability, Global Citizenship, and People Leadership, and is a member of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ).
