PhD scholarships

The Laureate Program on Global Corporate Climate Accountability is seeking expressions of interest from potential PhD candidates to begin in 2026.

Potential PhD topics include (but are not limited) to those relating to:

  • International climate law and accountability models

  • Climate litigation

  • Frameworks for raising corporate climate ambition

  • Mechanisms for holding companies accountable

  • Climate litigation and accountability in the Global South (Latin America, Africa, South and South-East Asia, the Caribbean and Pacific jurisdictions)

We particularly welcome expressions of interest from scholars from the Global South, or those researching Global South countries.

Candidates will be supervised by Laureate Fellow Professor Jacqueline Peel, teamed with early-career researchers, with the potential for co-supervisors from the Melbourne Law School faculty. Applicants should have strong academic results including experience with longer writing forms such as a minor thesis at either Honours or Masters level. Eligible applicants will be supported by scholarships offered under the Laureate program that include a living stipend for the duration of the PhD (up to 4 years) and full fee remission.

PhD candidates must meet the Law PhD entry requirements including the residency requirement and English Language Requirement.
